Fishing Report #3 03/05/10
Hello again my fishing "fin"atics:
Another week, another seminar, and another missive from this side of the pond. By the end of March, my boats will come out of storage and preparations for the maiden voyages of 2010 will take shape. It is always exciting to approach a new charter season. I especially enjoy those first charters on lake Ontario in search of shoreline browns with a steelhead or two in the mix. In the meantime the closest I have come to fishing is vicariously through my seminars at Bass Pro Shops in Auburn. Again, on Saturday, March 6, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. I will continue my Winter series. We have already, in previous talks, covered Lake Ontario brown trout, salmon fishing, and Lowrance HDS fish finding with Structure Scan. This week the venue is Oneida Lake and walleye fishing during the spring and early summer. In the following week I will cover summer walleyes, walleye weed tactics and fall fishing for walleyes.
Here are a couple walleye photos featuring blade bait fishing.
This catch with Tom Juno Sr., president of Power Seal, Liverpool, NY, Tom Merrill, president of the B'ville Rod and Gun Club, Bud Hayes, B'ville, NY, Tom Juno Jr., home on leave, US Air Force, Ellsworth Air force Base, S. Dakota came on the deep side of the outer Lakeport Bar dead north of Fremac Waterfront. The WMD's were the Bass Pro Shops XPS 1/2 oz.Lazer Blades in the Gold/Black holographic finish
I will be talking about "blade baits" in general, how and when to fish them. Where they are the most productive and why the different sizes. Jigging blades have on occasion inspired inactive fish to strike. Here are Tom and Rosemary Smith who have a cottage at Sylvan Beach on the east end of Oneida Lake with a blade catch. On this day the bite was aided by the 5/8 and 3/4 oz. blades.
Hope to see many of you at BPS on Sat. and more importantly on the water this season. If you are planning an outing for 2010, get to me soon, particularly if you need a weekend date.
E "fish" ently yours,
cap'n tony
